Mr. Srinivasan Vaidyanathan

Mr. Srinivasan Vaidyanathan is the Chief Financial Officer at HDFC Bank. In this role, he is responsible for Finance, Tax, Strategy & M&A, Investor Relations, and Corporate Communications for the Bank.  

Mr. Vaidyanathan joined the Bank from Citigroup, New York where he was Managing Director – Finance & Deputy Treasurer in the Institutional Clients Group, managing a balance sheet of over US$1.3 trillion. Prior to that, he was the CFO in Citi Global Treasury, New York. He joined Citigroup in 1991 and has held regional and global leadership positions in diverse geographies such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and New York. He brings rich expertise in products and processes having covered retail, cards, institutional businesses and corporate functions. 

During his 27 year stint at Citigroup, Mr. Vaidyanathan successfully led financial control and processes; passionately built the finance function and drove business results. He has led financial planning; MIS and analysis; treasury; treasury reporting and analysis; as well as expense control and management. He was also part of the Global Consumer Planning Group at Citigroup.  

During his professional journey of over three decades, he’s been the recipient of several recognitions. Mr. Vaidyanathan was adjudged  the ‘CFO of The Year’ by the Financial Express at FE CFO Awards 2024;  ‘CFO of The Year’ award by CII-CFO Excellence Awards 2023-24,; adjudged ‘Best CFO (Gold)’ in Asia’s Best Companies Poll by FinanceAsia; recognised as the ‘Impactful CFO’ at the 5th Edition of ET Now CFO Strategy Summit; as a ‘Finance Icon’ at the Dun & Bradstreet Finance Leadership Summit 2024. 

In the Extel Asia Executive Team survey 2025, Mr. Vaidyanathan was ranked among top 3 CFOs in India across all companies and first across all bank CFOs in India. During his stint in Citigroup, he was conferred with the Citi Global Consumer Award for Excellence in 2004 and the Citi Chairman’s Award for Service Excellence in 1992.   

A Commerce graduate from Madras University, Mr. Vaidyanathan has several post graduate degrees. He is a Fellow of India Chartered Accountants and Cost & Management Accountants; Fellow of the UK Association of International Accountants and a Member of CMA, USA. He earned an MBA from Madurai Kamaraj University and attended an Executive Development Programme at Yale University, USA. He’s an All-India Rank Holder at the Intermediate and Final level of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.  

Mr. Vaidyanathan is a cricket aficionado and has represented various clubs in Singapore as well as Chennai. When not crunching numbers, he can be found listening to Carnatic music or travelling across the world or spending time with his family.
