FASTag Portability: Everything You Need to Know About OneTag

Changing your FASTag issuing bank no longer means replacing the sticker on your vehicle. With OneTag, eligible users can switch banks digitally and keep using their existing FASTag.

Synopsis

  • FASTag portability lets eligible users switch their FASTag issuing bank without replacing the physical sticker.

  • The OneTag facility is accessed through the RajmargYatra app.

  • The existing tag ID and vehicle registration number remain unchanged.

  • Pending disputes must be resolved before porting.

  • The balance in the old FASTag wallet does not automatically transfer to the new bank.

  • HDFC Bank supports OneTag portability for eligible customers who wish to move their FASTag services to the bank.

What Is OneTag and How Does FASTag Portability Work?

OneTag is a portability feature for NETC FASTag users. It allows vehicle owners to change their issuing bank without removing the existing sticker from their windscreen. The idea is similar to mobile number portability, where customers can change service providers without changing their phone number.

Earlier, switching banks meant closing the existing FASTag wallet, applying for a new tag and completing the onboarding process again. Customers who applied online also had to wait for delivery and replace the sticker themselves.

OneTag removes the need for these steps. The physical tag and its ID remain the same, while the issuing bank is changed through a digital process. This gives customers more freedom to choose a bank based on service quality, recharge options and their banking preferences.

How to Port FASTag to HDFC Bank

If you want to know how to port FASTag, you can begin the process through the RajmargYatra app. Follow these steps:

  1. Download the app: Install the RajmargYatra mobile application and register using your mobile number.

  2. Select OneTag: Find the ‘OneTag FASTag Porting’ option on the app’s homepage.

  3. Check eligibility: Enter your vehicle registration number to check whether your FASTag can be ported. The tag must be active, and any pending disputes with the existing issuing bank must be resolved.

  4. Complete verification: Enter the Mobile Verification Code (MVC) received from your current FASTag issuing bank and authorise.

  5. Choose HDFC Bank: Select HDFC Bank as your preferred issuing bank and move on to its onboarding journey.

  6. Complete onboarding: Follow the bank's instructions to complete the porting process.

Once the process is completed successfully, you can continue using your existing physical tag. Check the status of your request and follow any instructions provided by the app or bank.

What Happens to Your Existing FASTag Wallet?

The balance in your old wallet does not automatically transfer to the new bank. You will need to contact your previous issuing bank to claim the eligible balance and settle any outstanding transactions or refunds.

Your previous bank handles the closure of the existing wallet, pending transactions, refunds and disputes. HDFC Bank, as the new issuing bank, manages onboarding and your future FASTag services after successful porting.

Important Things to Know Before Porting

Before you begin, consider these points:

  • Your current FASTag should be active and eligible for portability.

  • Resolve any pending disputes with your current issuing bank.

  • Your existing wallet balance will not automatically move to HDFC Bank.

  • The existing physical sticker can be ported only once under the stated framework. A universal FASTag sticker will be required for subsequent switches to another bank.

  • Customers porting to HDFC Bank can link the ported FASTag to an existing HDFC Bank FASTag wallet or create a new wallet.

Who Developed OneTag?

OneTag is a joint initiative involving the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), promoted by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and participating FASTag issuing banks.

IHMCL and NHAI are providing support for the initiative, while NPCI will update the FASTag system with the new bank details. The bank that you currently have will look after your existing wallet as well as any pending refunds or transactions, and the new bank will be in charge of setting up your account and managing your FASTag from now on.

Final Thoughts

By offering a digital procedure that allows you to select your preferred bank, OneTag makes it easier to change the bank that issued your FASTag, since you no longer need to replace your physical sticker. Eligible customers will therefore be able to manage their toll payment arrangements with less hassle.

Through its OneTag service, HDFC Bank provides FASTag portability. Should you be thinking of changing banks, you should check whether you are eligible and follow the procedure via the RajmargYatra app. After the porting has been finished, you can handle your future FASTag needs with HDFC Bank by either linking your tag to an existing wallet or setting up a new one.

It is important that your current tag is eligible and that any pending disputes have been settled before you start the process.

The balance that was in your previous FASTag wallet will not be automatically transferred to HDFC Bank; you should get in touch with your previous issuing bank in order to claim the balance which is eligible and to deal with any outstanding transactions or refunds. Once you have done this, you can subsequently manage your future FASTag services via HDFC Bank after the porting process has been completed.

Under the OneTag framework, the current physical sticker can only be transferred once; if you later wish to switch to a different bank you will need a universal FASTag sticker in order to make further switches. It is important to check the most up-to-date eligibility criteria before submitting a request.
