Receiving a remittance as a gift from a relative is free from tax. Conversely, if the gift surpasses ₹50,000 and comes from a non-relative, it is taxable. For tax purposes, relatives include immediate family members such as parents, siblings, spouse, children, and their spouses, and any lineal ascendants or descendants.
