Have you ever lost your Debit Card? When a wallet got stolen, or you forgot to take it back after paying your bill at the restaurant or dropped it while you were shopping? In the era of digital payments, Debit Cards have become irreplaceable. Hence, banks have made it simple for their customers to apply for a Debit Card reissue- whether lost, stolen, or damaged.
Debit Cards have become an integral way of life for customers to make payments without the hassles of cash. Unlike Credit Cards, where customers need to remember to settle bill payments every month, Debit Cards allow customers to make payments which get directly deducted from the account. It is also the means to access cash when needed; losing such access is painful.
To begin with, if you have lost your Debit Card, the first thing to do is call customer care and block your card to avoid tampering and misuse. Read here on how HDFC Bank allows customers to block Debit Cards.
Once the card is blocked, all banks offer multiple channels to apply for the reissue of ATM Cards:
1. Online via NetBanking
Login to your respective bank website and open the cards section. In the service request section, choose the card that needs replacement and select to make a reissue card application. Banks accept the request and dispatch a new card to your registered mailing address within a few working days.
2. Online via MobileBanking
If you do not have access to NetBanking, every bank mobile application allows users to apply for the reissue of a Debit or ATM Card. Here are the steps:
Login to the MobileApp and select cards from the menu section
Click on the service request from the cards section after identifying the specific card number for replacement.
The Bank dispatches the Debit Card reissued to the mailing address registered.
3. Offline via Customer Care or Branch Visit
If you are uncomfortable using NetBanking or Mobile Applications to raise these requests, you could quickly contact your bank customer care helpline numbers and speak to a customer service executive to register a reissue a Debit Card or ATM Card application. The customer care team logs the request in, and the new card is issued and dispatched directly to your registered mailing address.
However, if you are near a bank branch, you could also visit and submit an application for a replacement of your Debit Card in person and collect the card from the branch or request it be delivered to your mailing address.
While banks have simplified the process of reissuing a Debit Card, the process attracts a negligible replacement charge that varies from bank to bank. The charge will be directly debited to your account after issuing the new Debit Card.
So, the next time you lose a card, remember first to block the Debit Card and use any of the three simple, secure and efficient ways mentioned to request a reissue of new with the bank. Click here to read more on how to go about blocking your Debit Card.
