You are eligible for a Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account If you are:

  • Resident Individuals (sole or joint account)
  • Hindu Undivided Families
  • Customer should not be having existing BSBD Account with any other Bank.
  • Customer should not be holding any other Savings account with HDFC Bank.
  • Minor above the age of 10 years are eligible to open self-operated minor account and an ATM/Debit card can be issued to the Minor.

A Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account facilitates basic banking services for all. By opening a BSBD Account, you can access banking facilities such as free cash deposits, free RuPay Debit Card, access to NetBanking, Mobile Banking and PhoneBanking, cheque facility, etc. You can send money to different bank accounts via NetBanking and PhoneBanking. You can also access Safe Deposit Lockers and Super Saver facilities (Overdraft Against FD).

As per RBI guidelines, Regular Savings Account holders can convert their account into a no-frills BSBD Account. Note that if you hold a BSBD Account, you cannot hold any other Savings Account or Current Account with the bank. Additionally, you cannot have a BSBD Account with any other bank.

  • Job card issued by NREGA, duly signed by an officer of the State Government

  • Identity cards issued by the Central/State Government, Public Sector Undertaking, any Scheduled Commercial Bank or any Public Financial Institution for their employees

Yes, you can. You can open a Fixed Deposit or Recurring Deposit in the bank where you hold a BSBD Account.

No, you cannot. As a BSBD Accountholder, you are not eligible to open another Savings Account or Current Account with the bank. If you have another account, you are required to close it within 30 days from the opening of the BSBD Account.
