How to Cancel a UPI AutoPay Mandate through UPI App

To cancel a UPI AutoPay mandate, open your UPI application (such as Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, or BHIM) where mandate was created. Go to the Profile or Settings section and select AutoPay, Mandates, or Subscriptions. Locate the active mandate, choose Cancel or Revoke, and enter your UPI PIN to confirm.

General Steps to Cancel UPI AutoPay

  • Access the App: Open the UPI app that was used to create the AutoPay mandate.

  • Navigate to Mandates: Go to the Profile or Settings section and select AutoPay, Mandates, or Auto-Payments.

  • View Active Subscriptions: Check the Active or Live tab to view all ongoing AutoPay mandates.

  • Select and Cancel: Choose the merchant mandate you wish to cancel and tap Cancel or Revoke.

  • Confirm Cancellation: Enter your UPI PIN to complete the cancellation process.

Important Note
 

  • Cancelling a UPI AutoPay mandate will stop all future automatic debits. Payments that have already been completed will not be reversed.

  • As per regulator, Cancellation of UPI Autopay mandates of certain merchants (as Debt collection, Loan repayment) are not allowed through UPI app. Please contact the respective merchant directly to cancel the mandate.

How to Cancel UPI AutoPay Through a Merchant’s Website or App

Cancelling a UPI AutoPay mandate directly on the merchant’s website or mobile app ensures that the service provider stops initiating future charges. 

Steps to Cancel UPI AutoPay on a Merchant Platform 

  • Log in to the Merchant Platform: Open the website or mobile app of the service provider (for example, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, Jio, or Tata Play) where the subscription was activated. 

  • Go to Account or Profile Settings: Navigate to the Account, Profile, or Settings section. 

  • Open Subscriptions or Billing: Look for options such as Manage Subscription, Active Plans, Billing, Payment Methods, or Billing History. 

  • Identify the AutoPay Mandate: Locate the active subscription or auto-debit instruction linked to UPI AutoPay. 

  • Cancel subscription or Auto-Renewal service: Select Cancel Subscription or Turn Off Auto-Renew to stop future payments. 

  • Confirm Cancellation: Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm. Some merchants may ask for a reason for cancellation. 

  • Check for Confirmation: Ensure you receive a confirmation email or in-app message confirming that the subscription or recurring payment has been stopped.

Important Tips 

  • Cancel Early: Cancel the mandate at least 2–3 days before the next scheduled payment to avoid last-minute charges. 

  • Verify in Your UPI App: After cancelling on the merchant platform, open your UPI app and check AutoPay/Mandates to confirm the status shows Cancelled or Revoked. 

  • If Merchant Cancellation Is Not Available: You can revoke the mandate directly through your UPI app under Profile > AutoPay. 

  • Refund Policy: Cancelling UPI AutoPay stops future payments only. Amounts already debited are not automatically refunded. 

  • In case of merchant website/app doesn’t provide option to cancel the subscription/bill service/loan repayment service, etc. Please contact merchant’s customer service to facilitate the UPI autopay cancellation.

  • No. Cancelling AutoPay only stops future debits. Past transactions remain unchanged.

  • Yes. You can cancel your subscription or turn off auto-renewal on the merchant’s platform (such as Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, or Tata Play). This helps ensure the merchant stops initiating future payment requests as well. 

  1. 11. After cancelling the merchant service/subscription, do I still need to cancel AutoPay in my UPI app? 

  • It is recommended. After cancelling on the merchant platform, check your UPI app under AutoPay/Mandates to confirm the mandate status shows Cancelled or Revoked. 

  1. 12. Will I be informed about the upcoming mandate debit? 

  • As per set debit frequency, your merchant will inform to your UPI app and Remitter bank to send Pre-Debit Notification at least 24 hours before the mandate execution via notification and SMS respectively. 

  1. 13. Will cancelling on the merchant platform refund past payments? 

  • No. Cancelling AutoPay stops future payments only. Amounts already debited are not automatically refunded. 

  1. 14. What if the merchant does not provide a cancellation option? 

  • You can revoke the UPI AutoPay mandate directly from your UPI app under AutoPay/Mandates section.
