    Braille-Enabled Card Design

    The HDFC Bank Companion Debit Card is thoughtfully designed with raised Braille dots to support visually impaired users. These embossed markings allow cardholders to identify and read the card independently, without external assistance. The distinct Braille feature also helps users easily differentiate the card from other bank cards, ensuring greater confidence and accessibility in everyday use.

    ATM Accessibility

    HDFC Bank ATMs are designed to support independent and secure banking for visually challenged customers. Each ATM offers voice guidance that can be accessed by plugging headphones into the designated jack, providing clear, step-by-step audio instructions throughout the transaction. Additionally, Braille-enabled keypads make it easier for users familiar with Braille to enter inputs confidently, ensuring smooth and accessible navigation of banking services.

    These accessibility enhancements reflect HDFC Bank’s commitment to customer convenience, financial inclusion, and compliance with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines on barrier-free banking services. Insurance Coverage Overview

  • For any Claims under Fire & Burglary Insurance to be accepted & processed, the cardholder should have conducted at least 1 purchase transaction using the Debit Card, within 3 months prior to the event date. 
  • In the event the Insured Person(s) having multiple Cards issued by the Insured named in the Schedule, the Insurance Policy shall be applicable only for the Card, which has the highest Sum Insured / limit of Indemnity. 
  • All Debit Card holders are required to use their Debit Card at retail OR on-line stores at least once every 30 days to keep the free Personal Death Insurance cover on their Debit Card active.
  • In the event the Insured Person(s) having multiple Cards issued by the Insured named in the Schedule, the Insurance Policy shall be applicable only for the Card, which has the highest POS amount.

    Who Can Apply?

  • Visually impaired customers maintaining an HDFC Bank Savings, Salary or Current Account can apply for the Companion Debit Card. For more information, please contact your nearest branch.
  • How To Apply?

  • Eligible customers can apply for the HDFC Bank Companion Debit Card either by visiting a bank branch in person or through a visit by a bank official to the customer’s residence to complete the required formalities.

Contactless Payment Technology

    The HDFC Bank Companion Debit Card is enabled for contactless payments, facilitating fast, convenient and secure payments at retail outlets.

    To check if your Card is contactless, look for the contactless network symbol on your Card. You can use your Card to make quick transactions at merchant locations accepting contactless Cards.

    (Note: In India, payment through contactless mode is allowed for a maximum of ₹5,000 for a single transaction where you are not asked to input your Debit Card PIN. However, if the amount is higher than or equal to ₹5,000, the Card holder must enter the Debit Card PIN for security reasons.)

    As per RBI guidelines RBI/2019-2020/142 DPSS.CO.PD No. 1343/02.14.003/2019-20 dated 15th January 2020, all Debit Cards issued effective 1st Oct' 2020, are or will be enabled only for Domestic usage (PoS & ATM) and disabled for Domestic (E-commerce & contactless) and International usage. This is to improve user convenience and increase the security of card transactions.

Yes. The Companion Debit Card is enabled for contactless payments, allowing you to make fast, secure, and convenient transactions by simply tapping the card at supported terminals.

The Companion Debit Card offers the following insurance coverages, subject to applicable terms and conditions:

  • Death cover during air, road, or rail travel with a sum insured of up to ₹5 lakh.
  • Additional international air accident cover of ₹25 lakh on purchase of air tickets using the Debit Card.
  • Fire & Burglary insurance for items purchased using the Debit Card, with coverage of up to ₹2 lakh for up to six months.
  • Loss of baggage cover of up to ₹2,00,000.
