How to Convert a Minor Account into a Major Account?

Via InstaServices

Process to be followed by the Guardian

  • Visit the InstaServices page and click ‘Let’s Begin’ after confirming prerequisites.

  • Guardian enters Registered Mobile Number + DOB/PAN/Customer ID and authenticates via OTP.

  • Confirm guardian identity using eKYC/Debit Card/NetBanking, select language, give consent, and proceed.

  • Submit details based on chosen option (e.g., Aadhaar/VID for eKYC) and confirm with OTP.

  • Select the Minor Turned Major’s Account, enter communication details, and choose Mode of Operation.

  • Select the Account Variant and confirm.

  • Review and update Nominee Details if required.

  • Preview and confirm all details.

  • A link is sent to the Minor turned Major via SMS/Email to complete the process.

Note: The Minor turned Major must convert the account within 30 days to avoid the account being blocked.

Process to be followed by the Minor

  • Open the link from SMS/Email and click ‘Let’s Begin’.

  • Confirm availability of guardian-selected documents and verify with OTP.

  • Review and confirm details provided by your guardian.

  • Complete verification using Aadhaar eKYC (enter Aadhaar/VID, submit OTP).

  • Confirm address, FATCA, birthplace, and marital status details.

  • Verify via Email OTP.

  • Select Debit Card, enable Insta Alerts and e-statements.

  • Preview details, give consent, and start Video KYC (vKYC).

  • Once vKYC is completed, the account will be upgraded to a Major Account.

  • You can upgrade a Minor Account to a Major Account by downloading or collecting the Minor to Major Conversion Form, filling it with the required details, attaching a copy of your Aadhaar and address proof, and submitting it at the branch.

Key Considerations

  • The account must be converted within 30 days of the minor turning 18. If not, it will be blocked and can only be unblocked by visiting a branch.

  • The account number remains the same after conversion—only the status changes from Minor to Major.

  • An SMS and Email will be sent to the Minor turned Major with a link to complete the conversion process.

  • A valid PAN card (with photo and signature) is mandatory.

Prerequisites for Minor to Major Account Conversion

Before converting a Minor Account to a Major Account, both the guardian and the now-adult account holder must these certain requirements:

A. Guardian

  • Must be an Indian national and tax resident of India.
  • Should have completed KYC (ID & Address Proof) with HDFC Bank.
  • Must have Debit Card/NetBanking/Aadhaar details handy for identity confirmation.

B. Minor Turned Major

  • Should possess a valid Aadhaar Number.
  • Must have an upgraded physical PAN card with photo and signature.
  • Aadhaar and PAN should be available for identity verification and Video KYC (vKYC).
