Unified Payment Interface (UPI) is a cutting-edge digital payment system that streamlines financial transactions in India. By merging several bank accounts into one app, UPI makes transferring money, paying bills, and shopping simple.

  • For HDFC Bank Customers
  • Create a BHIM/UPI ID
  • Tap on the 'BHIM UPI Payment' icon within the HDFC Bank MobileBanking App.
  • An automatic SMS for device binding and security will be generated. Send this SMS (standard charges apply).
  • Set up your UPI ID, such as your mobile number (e.g., 98XXXXXX21@hdfcbank).
  • Choose your HDFC Bank Account to link with your UPI ID.
  • Create a 4-digit UPI PIN using your Debit Card details to complete the registration. 
  • Pay Money using BHIM/UPI
  • Tap the 'BHIM UPI Payment' icon at the bottom of the HDFC Bank MobileBanking App.
  • Enter your 6-digit App password.
  • Select 'Send Money'.
  • Choose a payment method:

    • UPI ID of the recipient
    • Account number and IFSC code
    • Mobile number and MMID
  • Fill in the amount and any additional details.
  • Enter your 4-digit UPI PIN and confirm the payment.
  • Request Money using BHIM UPI:
  • Log in to the HDFC Bank MobileBanking App.
  • Tap on Account > BHIM HDFC Bank > Request Money.
  • Select the Collect Option.
  • Input the UPI ID of the payer.
  • Enter the amount and a description.
  • Set the expiry duration and initiate the request.
  • For Non-HDFC Bank Customers:
  • Create a BHIM/UPI ID:
  • Download the MobileBanking App (*For Android users only).
  • Tap the BHIM HDFC Bank icon at the bottom left of the screen.
  • Create your UPI ID (e.g., 998765432@hdfcbank).
  • Select a security question and provide an answer.
  • Choose your bank and bank account.
  • Set a 6-digit Application Password.
  • Pay Money using BHIM/UPI:
  • Tap the 'BHIM HDFC Bank' icon at the bottom left of the MobileBanking App screen (*For Android users only).
  • Enter your 6-digit App password.
  • Tap 'Pay'.
  • Choose your payment method:

    • UPI ID of the recipient
    • Account number and IFSC
  • Enter your 4-digit UPI PIN and confirm the payment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, creating and using a UPI ID is safe as long as you follow security practices, such as enabling two-factor authentication, choosing strong passwords, and avoiding sharing sensitive information.

No, you cannot change your UPI ID once it's created. However, if needed, you can delete the existing ID and create a new one, subject to your bank's policies.

To create a UPI ID, you need a mobile number linked to your bank account, a valid bank account with UPI support, and an active internet connection.

Yes, you can create several UPI IDs for a single bank account, with a maximum of 4 UPI IDs allowed per account.
